- a highly advantageous feature of the preferred embodiment of the subject invention is that the containment boom structure disclosed herein is fabricated from nothing more, or from almost nothing more, than simple flat sheet material, plus the air and water readily available at the site of die contaminant.

Abstract
On parvient à contenir des fuites d'huile et d'autres substances contaminantes (10) flottant sur l'eau (12) en utilisant un matériau en feuille (14) à l'endroit où se trouve la substance contaminante, pour former une structure de barrière de confinement flottante. Ladite barrière flottante (13) est formée en continu à partir du matériau en feuille au niveau de la fuite et lorsqu'une substance contaminante apparaît à la surface de l'eau, et elle se déploie dans l'eau (12) de manière continue pour éviter l'épandage de cette substance contaminante sur l'eau. On peut ainsi protéger les océans et d'autres étendues d'eau (12) ainsi que les zones côtières (54) contre l'épandage des fuites d'huile suite à des accidents de navires pétroliers (39) ou de plate-formes de forage en mer, ou contre d'autres substances contaminantes (10) flottant à la surface de l'eau.
