Abstract
A new and distinct peach tree variety, Prunus persica, cv. ‘Supechseventeen’ is characterized by fruit with large size, dark over-color and an early harvest.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species claimed: Prunus persica.
Variety denomination: ‘Supechseventeen’.
This invention relates to the discovery and asexual propagation of a new and distinct variety of peach, Prunus persica cv. ‘Supechseventeen’. The new variety was first hybridized in 2001 and selected in 2003 by Terry Bacon as breeder number: ‘PE386’. The new variety was first evaluated by Terry Bacon near Wasco, Calif. in Kern County. The variety ‘Supechseventeen’ was originated by hybridization.
The new variety ‘Supechseventeen’ is characterized by its large size, dark over-color and early harvest.
The seed parent is ‘Supechsix’ (the subject of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 11,631), and the pollen parent is ‘91-006C’ (an unpatented Sun World peach). The parent varieties were first crossed in February 2001, with the date of planting of the progeny being February 2002, and the date of first flowering being February 2003. The new peach variety ‘Supechseventeen’ was first asexually propagated by Terry Bacon near Wasco, Kern County, Calif. in January 2005, by budding.
