IIMFPROV EMENT IN JOINT STANDARD-515E135 The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, IsAIAn Kinsman, of Waltham, in the county of Hancock, and State of Maine, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Joint Standard-Sleds; and I- do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and'fignrcs of reference marked thereon.

Figure 2 is a rear view of the front pair of runners.

Figure 3 is a longitudinal vertical central section of my invention. v

Figure 4 is a rear view of the rear pair of runners.

My invention relates to the manufacture of sleds; and v It consists, mainly, in a novel arrangement of devices intended for use in adapting the runners of a sled to the inequalities of the ground over which it may be drawn.

My sled is constrncted'with four short runners, of the form shown on the drawings, and marked respectively A and B, upon which I arrange the body-frame 0, in the manner represented.

The lettersa represent the knees of my sled, pivoted to the runners respectively, and formed with crossheads, that serve as rests for the cross-bars Dand E.

The letter 0 represents a rod, arranged in staples upon the frontside of cross-bar 1), andadapted to serve as a pintle for the hinges, next mentioned. This rod is made removable by a nut. and screw on one end thereof.

The letters 0 represent arms, hinged upon the rod 0, as shown, au d also hingedto the front end of run- 11ers B by the staples and pins h.

The letters i represent braces, attached respectively to the inner sides of arms 0, and hinged to the rod 0 by a staple-joint; and the letters a represent bars, that serve as rests for said springs.

The letters 0 represent blocks, afiixed to the upper sides of runners B, to serve as stops in preventing too great depression of said runners.

The front part of my sled is provided with the devices above described, as appertaining to the rear part thereof, except the blocks 0, and inasmuch as tbefrcnt cross-bar of the frame 0 is a rocker operating upon The neap of my sled is attached to the rod 0, andalso to the cross-bar E, asshow-n, and it is held firmly in' place by the brace s.

The letter 9 represents the double-tree, pivoted in the ueap, and to which the team is attached.

A sled constructed in the manner herein described, is adapted for use upon uneven ground, and may be moved with but little jolting over those inequalities in snow-paths, which are always formed by moving heavy loads thereon.
