IMPROVEMENT IN WHIP-SOCKETS.

The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Beit known that we, J. A. CALDWELL and O. S. BUG- BEE, both of Springfield, Hampden county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improved Whip-Socket; and we do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full and clear description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

This invention consists of a new and improved socket for whips, which iseasily-and cheaply manufactured, and yet more durable and perfect in its operation than those now in use.

It consists in construction of a socket, A, turned up from a solid piece of wood, the grain of the same ordinarily running lengthwise.

- Thermethod of attaching this socket A to the car'- riage may be varied to suit'circumstances, but the way we prefer to accomplish this is by the use of the two. straps, B and B, which are connected in a peculiar manner, as shown in fig. 2 more particularly, where it is seen that a continuous strap is passed around the socket A and through the dash-board, or other supporting portion of the vehicle,both ends being fastened together, and between the socket A and the support, by means of a screw-rivet, H, and nut, I.

By this means we obtain an excellent socket, manufactured at a very slight cost, and easily attached by means of the bands already described.
