JOHN YOU NG, 0F AMST ERDAlVI, NEW YOIK.
Letters Patent No. 88,110, (lated M11/rch, 23, 1869.
IMPROVED CLOTHES-WRINGER The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent an. making part of the lame.
Be it known that I, J OHN YOUNG, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery, and State of New York, have inventedanew and usefullrnprovementin Clothes- Wringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and ope-ration of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Fignre 1 is a vertical side view of my invention, and
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
lhe object of this invention is to simplify the construction of clamps, or jaws for clothes-wringers, and also to attach the same more readily and securely to the wash-tub, Sto.
The nature of this invention will be more fully understood by the following description.
A, figs. 1 and 2, represents the standard, or upright of a clothes-wringen b and c are cross-bars, which hold the two standards A together.
I form a strip of metal, D, nearly as shown in the drawing, iigs. 1 and 2, and secure one end, by means 0f screws, to the standard A. The other portion of said metal spring D, is suitably secured to the jaw E.
A thumb-screw, f, in general use for the purpose. is
I am aware that the clamping-har has been fastenedk to the wringer-post, to allow a lateral play, as in patent of George B. Griin, J une 4, 1861, and this I do not claim; but,
What I do claim, isy Connecting the clamping-bar E to the wringen-post, by a metallic springfastening,'in such a way that the 'spn'ng throws the clamping-bar off from the post, when released from pressure.
JOHN YOUNG. Witnesses:
J. W. LATCHER, J AMES YOUNG.'
