EMILE NOUGARET, ojE NEWARK, NEW .iERsEYi Leners Patent No. 87,869, dated Merch 16, 1869.
narnoven @MTRR-Boor.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.'
To all whom 'it ma/y conce/m:
Be it known that I, EMILE NOUGARET, of Newark, Essex` county, New Jersey, have invented a new-and useful Improvement in Gaiter-Boots; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved galten-boot.
Figure 2 is a detail transverse section of the same, taken on the plane of the line iig. 1.
Similarletters of reference indicate corresponding. parts. I
This invention relates to a new manner of arranging the elastics on gaiter-boots, with a view of preventing their wearing out, and of facilitating their attachment.
The inventionocnsists in setting the elastics in front of the boot, close together, so that a narrow strip of leather is left between them.
The elastics, as heretofore used, were generally soon worn out at the ankles, and were, ,moreover, difficult to sew to the leather, or other material, of which the boot is made.
By my invention, the elastics are brought into a position on the instep, where they are not liable to wear and injury, and where they warm the most exposed part ofthe foot.
- A, in the drawing, represents a gaiter-boot of ordinary or suitable form.
B B are the elastics, arranged in front, close together, so that but a narrow strip, O, of leather, isleft between them.
This-strip allows the boot to be put on more readily than if the elastics would extend clear across the front, as it allows the front handle, a, to be used without stretching the elastic. .r y
The strip O may be ornamented by buttons, b b, or otherwise.
The distance from the lower end of the elastics to the front of the shoe,i`s, with this arrangement, made so short that leather will be saved, and aseam in front, as at c, will allow small pieces of leather to be used, thereby still more cheapening the cost of the article.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentv A gaiter-boot, provided with elastic-s, B B, in front, separated by a narrow strip, C, all extending to the top of the boot, as herein shown and described, and
for the purpose specified. 4
