Description
@im tant 'amt t IMPRovED TRACE-BUCKLE.
The Scnemle referred to in these Letters iPntent and maklng o! the name.
To all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD S. DAwsomof Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, and State of New Yo1k have invented a new and improved Trace-Buckleg and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, vreference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front View,
Figure 2 is an edgeview, and
Y Figure 3 is a sectional edge view. l
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention consists in a buckle formed by securing a wedge-shaped piece to the llames-tug in a permarient manner, and providing, vin'connection therewith, abuckle-frame, of such construction that said wedge makes a jamming connection with the buckleframe andtug, when strain is applied, as hereinafter described. a f
In the accompanying drawings- E is the tug, and F, the haines-tug.
A is the buckle-frame, having a'wide cross-bar, a, and opposite thereto a round cross-bar, b, fig. 3, and
having also a fixedprojection, or tongue, atc.
The wedge D is pivoted to the hames-tug by means of a rivet or screw', el.
When a strain is brought upon the tug, the wedge D is forced in between the tug and the bar 71,1'1ntilV the tug is clamped so firmly between the wedge and wide bar a, as to make a strong and secure connection between the two parts of the tug, withoutV any lifabil-j ity of damage to the tug.
The buckle-frame A is'provided with a tongue, c, v
iig. 3, which engages with holes in the tug, in theordinary manner, although the oce of`this tongue is mainly to do the spacing in taking up or letting out the tugs, and to steady them in position.
For changing the length of the tug, the vwedge D is first backed up, and this allows' the tongue c tobe withdrawn and changed to any desired hole inthe tug.
The rivet d @an be est solid with the wedge D, as'
a part thereof, and sewn into the haines-tug, if preferred, and in this manner the buckle is composed of two pieces, which arecast complete, and' require no fitting. y
The exposed face of the buckle presents a neat and snug appearance, and by these means I obtain a very simple, cheap, and efficient buckle.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desireV to secure by Letters Patent, is l The buckle-frame Aa b c and hames-tug attachment D d, constructed and operating as and for the purpose specied.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 28th day of December, 1868.
` n. s. DAWSON.
