Description
A. H. SHREPPLER. DROPPING PLATFORM FOR HARVBSTERS.
No. 83,735. Patented Nov. 3, 1868.
r 7% smi- ANDREW SHREFFLER, or JULIET; ILLINOIS.
Letters'Patent No. 83,735, dated November 3, 1868. i
IMPROVEMENT IN DROPPING-PLATFORMS FOR HARVESTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent ind making part ofthe lame.
Be it known that I ANDREW H. SHREFFLER, of the city of J oliet, in Will county,'and State of Illinois, have invented an Improvement in Droppers in Grain- Harvesters; and that the following is a, full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specifica tion, in which--- Figure 1 is a plan view of the top, and
Figure 2, a. side elevation of the same.
The nature of-my invention consists in an improvement in dropper-s in harvesters which I will fully explain.
(t represents a tilting-floor upon which thegra-in rests as it is cut, to which tilting-floor is hinged a stop, b, with or without teeth, as shown in fig; 1, against which the grain stands to prevent its falling at once over on the ground in the rear.- The front edge of the tilting: floor a rests upon the finger-bar m, and at the rear 011 the pivot shown at n mso that the same may be tilted baek by means of the lever e, as the machine travels along to throw off the grain. The front edge of the tilting-floor. may be placed very near to the sickle, so as to evoidleaving any space between the some and said floor, or it may be set further back, at the option of the operator; The toothed'stop b may be setot any desired angleto the tilting-floor a by means .of the use of the circnlarslotted plate's d, and the setscrew operating in said slot on the ends of the stop,
ent lengths of grain.
i represents a spring which is used to give the stop b and tilting-floor ll it start back over the centre after the difi'erent posit-ions of the dropping-device when tilted over to let on" the grain.
Claims.
\Vhet I claim as new in my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. The combination of the stop I) with the tiltingfloor 0 arranged, operating, and constructed substantielly as and for the purposes set forth,
2, The use of the spring 0 to start the droppingdevice back past the centre after letting go of the level 0, substantially as described.
3. The combination of the platform a, slotted extension l) c, curved slotted plates :2, spring 1', and lever ANDREW H. SHREFFLER.
Witnesses:
