DEXTER HATHAWAY, OF WYOMING, WISCONSIN.

IMPROVEMNT IN GRAIN-SEPARATORS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 83,630, dated November 3, 1568.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DEXTER HATHAWAY, of Wyoming, in the county of Iowa and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Grain-separators; and I do hereby declare that the following is an exact description 'of the construction and operation of the same.

The nature of 1n y invention consists in making the top sieve, A, in the gang of sieves B concave. I make two short screens, O and D. One, O, extends two-thirds the length of the shoe E on a longitudinal elevation from the inclined board F. The lower screen,D, extends from the back part of the shoe E down under the top screen, C. At the lower edge of shoe E and under the lower edge of the lower screen, D, I 'attach` a spout, G, that extends through the side of the separator on a transverse line. At the back end of the separator I attach a movable tail-board, H, that tightens with a screw.

To enable otlers skilled in the art t0 make and use my improvement, I will describe its construction and operation.

I construct 1n y separator in form as set forth in the drawing.

The top sieve, A, in the gang of sieves B being concave, the oats and straw pass down to the center of the sieve quicker than they would on a straight sieve. The wheat that passes through the top sieves B falls on the top screen, C, and passes down the inclined board F to the front of the separator. As the wheat falls from the upper sieves B the wind blows the tine wheat and oats back on the lower screen, D, and they pass out by the spout G thron gh the side of the separator.

The movable tailboard H is used to divide the grain that runs over the sieves B from the chaif.

I claim- 1. The two short screens C and D, as dcscribed.

2. Attaching the spout G to the lower edge of the shoe, as speciiied.

3. The movable tail-board H, as shown and described.
