TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be n known um I, JERESIAH D. EGLESTON, of Canaan, in the'eounty of Litchfield, in the 'stm of oonnecticut, have invented a new and improved Mode of Securing Springsin Beds and Seats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in securing a coiled cone-spring to a'slat or bottom of a bed or seat, by means of a. screw-nut, cnt into said slat or bed or seat-bottom, into which said spring is tted as a screw.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe'its construcstruction and operation.
Into a. sl'at, or any board, or piece of wood, designed for the bottomof a. bed or seat, I bore a hole, and out it out as for a nut to' a screw, into which I fit the small end of a. single cone-coiled spring, as shown at A in the accompanying drawing,'the wire of the spring answering as a thread, holding the spring and Slat together.
Springs thus secured are applicable tofbeds and seats of' all kinds that the common sofa-springs are, and may be covered and used iu the same way, or in any other convenient manner.
I make a bed of slats aboutfour inches wide, made into sections of two, three, or four slats in each, cleated atthe ends, into which I set the springs, having them occupy aspace of seven inches, more or less, each, thus completing it, ready for a mattress on top of the springs; or I use the slats on top of the springs, each one separate, with two or more springs to a slat, with the large end of the spring dowmand secured to or placed upon an arm, or transverse lslats underneath.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
