Description
@uiten gieten atutffirt Letters .Patent No'. 81,553, dated August 25, 1868.
IMPROVED BREAST-STRAP SLIDE.,
ltlge .tlnwrle` manita in tigen-Mers ment imi uniting mrt nf the time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
v:Be-it known that We, CHARLES I'I. STEVENS andWILSoN GARRISON, oi' Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, and. State of New Yorin-have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Breast-'Strap Slide for harness; and we do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art vto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part 'of this` specieation, in which-.-
Figure 1 is a front sectional' view ol' our invention, and
Figure 2'is a plan view of the same.
Figure 3-is a detail view. v
Siinilar letters of reference indicate like parts.
' This' slide is so constructed as to he used as a slide or'as a stationary wear-iron, asilesired.l l,It is provided with a. detachable tongue or pin, which engages with the breast-strap when the slide is to be held Iixedly on' the strap, and is removed when desirable that the slide should yield or play on the breast-strap, 'as hcreinaftenmore fully explained.
VIn the accompanying drawings, A is the slide, B the breast-strap, and C the detachable pin. The slide A consists in a convex hearing-form 7L, having a loop, el, at eaeh cnd,.aind inclined ribs a a, which are cut away at the cent-re, so as to form circular depressions ee for holding the end rings of the neck-yoke. The pin consistsv in a double-pointed pin, C c, having allangef, at the centre.
When it is desirable tonllow the slide A to move-on the strap B, and yield `to shocks, then Athe lpin C is removed. But for many kinds of work, such as reaping where' the draught-pole should have as little lateral play as possible, then the pin is insert-ed in its seat h, andthe slide fixed. onv the strap.
lThe pin is readily seated at any time by drawing the` strap away from L, and then inserting theend, c, into i a suitahl'ehole in and-the end, C, is then made to engage with a hole in the strap, Itis held in place without any'fasgening, but may be msdeto screw into its seat. However, we consider the method shown as themost simple and convenient. The langcfgivcs the pin greater stability in position.
Having thus described o'ur invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` The combination of the forni h, inclined'rihs a a, and loops d, with the detachable pin C, as herein shown, and for the purpose set forth.
