TO ALLWHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LEWIS BARNES, of Irvington, county of Westchester, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Combined Window and Blind-Fastening; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention consists win a device by which the blind and sash of o. 4window are securely fastened on the inside by combining the two festenings. A
Figure 1 represents a front inside view of the window, partly in section.
Figure Zis a vertical seetionthrough the line :empf fig. 1.
Similar lettersof reference indicate vlike parts.
A. represents the sash, to which the fastening is attached.
B is the windowframe.
C represents the blind upon the Youtside of the window.
There is nothing particularly novel in the fastening attached to the blind. A simple hasp is 1attached to 1 the blind at b. The other end of the hasp is dropped over a staple which is attached to the window-sill.V The end of the hasp extends forward to near the front of the sash, as seen in fig. 2. l
The under edge Vof the sash has a mortise in it,l sothat it sits over the staple'in thewindow-sill, when the sash isv down, and also over the end of the hasp. Y Y On the inside of the sash-rail D there is a slide-bolt, F, operated only7 on the inside, or by those in the room, by the projecting knob g.
' This sliding bolt is 'so arranged that when the knob is pushed forward the bolt enters the staple and fastens the sash down. 4
When it is desired to securely fasten the blind, (crlosed,) thehasp is placed over the staple, the sash is lowered over it and bolted, and the fastening is complete. i
4 Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'The bolt F, constructed as described, and secured to the inner side of the sashA, arranged in relation with the blind-hasp a and staple, the b lind being held closed when the sushis raised, and locked by the holt F pzissing through the staple; above the hasp a, when the sash is lowered, which movement also locks the sash, as herein shown and described. v
The above speciication of;4 my invention signed by me, this 15th day ci' Cctober, 1866.
' WILLIAM LEWIS BARNES.
