TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, E. B. DBISKELL, of Paris, in the county of ,Edgar, and State ofIllinois, have invented a new and improved Road-Scraper, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing. making a part of this specification, in 'which- My invention is representedby a perspective view.
This invention is an improved road-scraper which can be operated more conveniently, and is'cheaper and simpler in construction'than those incommon use. i i i In the drawings, A represents the draught-pole, to which the scraper B is attached by means of a standard, C, and braces D D. The rear end of the pole A extends behind the s'tandardO a few inches, and is pivoted on a vertical bolt, E, so that the forward end of the pole can swing to rightior left. The pivot-bolt E is supported by an axle, F, to which it is attached by a ring or collar,'G. .The axle does not extend in a straight line through the hubs of the draught-.wheels'H H,'but is at each end provided with a bent arm,-I,.shap ed like a crank, the outer extremity of which, corresponding to the crank-handle, bears in the hubs of the wheels. Handles J J are attached to the axle-tree, and project upward and backward like the handles of a plow.
The instrument being thus constructed, when travelling from place to place, or unloading, the scraper can be raised from the ground by bringing the arms I Iinto a vertical position, by properly elevating the handles J J. When it is desired to put the scraper into the grounder to load, it is only necessary to depi-essthe handles.
J J, which will lift the wheels off of the ground, and throw the weight of the whole apparatus on thescraper B.
The operation of the instrument'is thus extremely-simple, convenient, and effective. It has been thoroughly tested, and is found to be much superior in practical operation to all others in general use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is" The combination of the axle F, having the bent arms I I, with the wheels H H, thehandles J J, the pivoted draught-pole A, and the scraper B, when said parts are constructed and connected, so as to operate together substantially in the manner and for the purposes set forth. a x
'e E. B. DRIS KELL.
