Be it known that I, JOHN A. HEYL, of Boston,vin the county of Suolk, and State of Massachusetts, have made a new and useful Invention for Securing a Shoe to the Hoot' of a Horse; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully describedin the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of

The said shoe, shown at A, has three shallow recesses, a b b, arranged in or below its upper surface, in manner as represented, one being at the toc and the. others being near its heels. A

The opposite edges of the recess a are inclinedwith the base of the recess, in manner as shown at c c in iig. 8, and also in Figure 9, which is a transverse section ofthe shoe, such'secticn being taken through the middle of the recess d.

Each heel-recess, is right angular in shape, and has one edge, d, inclined to the base or bottom ofthe Irecess in manner as shown at e ev in Figure 10, which is a transverse section ofthe shoe, it being taken through the recesses b b. i A i Furthermore, a standard,f, having a screw, g, screwed through it, is erected on the shoe at its toe.

The connector B con-sists of. two `jaws, h h, formed to clasp the sides of the hoof C, and provided with catches t' z', c 7c, which project from the jaws, and are shaped in manner as represented. x The two catches are hinged together, as shown at l, and have their outer edges bevelled, as shown at m m', to extend under the v inclined edges, c c, of the recess of the toe of the shoe.

V A Y In fixing the shoe tothe hooi' by ineens of the connector, the jaws of the latter should be opened 'apart as far as possible, and the 'hoof introduced between them. `Next, 'the shoe should be pressed 'up against the catches of the connector, so as to 'ca-use the jaws'to close upon the hoot' and the catches to take into the recesses of the shoe, and catch therein, and holdit close up to the hoof. Next, the screw g should be screwed up so as to pass over the hinge Z OE the catches z'z', and thereby hold the shoe locked to the connector.

'lvhus the slice may be fastened to the hooi' without the necessity of nailing it thereto, and at any time may be easily removed therefrom, particularly when it may be desirable to have the horse stand in the stable 4or'run in a pasture without any shoes on his hoofs.

I claim as my invention the following; that is to say-- I claim the connector B, as described, that is, as consisting ofthe jaws and toe and heel-catches, arranged,

l constructed, and combined substantially in manner and to'Operatcwith a hoot` and with a shoe, constructed essentially as set forth.

IY also claim the shoe as made or. provided with toe andA heel-catclrrecesscs to` receive the catches of the jaws of the connector B, constructed as described.

I also claim the combination and arrangement of the'standard fand its screw g with the shoe, pruvided with toe and heel-recesses to receive the connector B, made-substantially Aas described.

I also claim the combination of the standardf and its screw g with the sho'e A and the connector B, made in manner and so as to operate together substantially as specified.
