WILLIAM GORSON, OF CAMDEN, OHIO.
Letters Patent 1V0. 78,789, dated Jt'me 9, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE FENCES.. I
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:-
Be it known that L'l/VILLIAM OORSON, of Camden, in the county of Preble, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Portable Fence; and I do hereby declare that the following is if full and exact description 7 of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference markcd'thereon.
I This invention consists in a method of fastening together firmly the panels of portable fences by a simple construction and arrangement of the bars, as will be hereinafter fully described.
In the drawings, A and B, fig. 1, represent the panels when ready to be united, constructed as shown, of
the same general shape and dimensions, and of any desired number of bars and length. a do 6 lib represent cross-pieces for the purpose of fastening the bars together to form the panel. d a ii 6 represent projections, of the bars, by which the panels are united across the ends of the former, of which a a passes the bar a, for
the purpose of forming sockets for the reception of the latter, 6 b'. The two upper bars of the panel A are out away-upon their lower side, and the two lower on'es upon their upper side, corresponding with which the projections b are also cut away in such manner that the one fits snugly into the other.
The centre-bars of the panels are somewhat difi'erently constructed. 62 represents a notch, cut in the upper side of the bar D, and 0 represents the corresponding part cut away in the bar 0, the former of which is made of flexible material, and fastened only at the point cl.
When it is desired to unite the panels, the bar D is depressed, and the projections 15 passed into thesockets of the panel A until the notch 01 is reached, when the bar D, being freed, it immediately resumes its natural position, and, shutting down into the notch, completes the fastening. By this arrangement the panels are easily and firmly united.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by. Letters Patent, is
The flexible bar D, incom'binntion with bar 0 and notch a, substantially as described.
WILLIAM CORSON.
