Be it known that I, FRANCIS H. GOULD, of Newarh, in-the eonty of Essex, in theStateoflNew Jersey, have invented a new and improved Detachable Cop for Buttons; and I do hereby declare the following to bea full, clear,-a.nd exact description thereof, enabling'those skilled in the'art tov make and use the same, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing, forming part o'f this specification, in whichdraWingl Eigure 1 represents a central section of this invention when'attoched to a button..

This invention consists in a. cap'for buttons, whichs provided wi'tha spring-catcher othersuituhle fasten-f ing,` so that'it can'be readily attachedlto or detached from a button, and that buttons onshirts, cuffs, cc'ats, or other articles'can bc readily covereduwith a cap of'any'desrahle shtpe 'oxxappearance.

A represents eeommon button, which may be of bone, metal, porcelain,-or any other-'suitable materioL-and 'which is sewed or otherwise-secured to its pl'ace in any' desirable manner.. Over this button is secured a cap, B,

l which may .be of gold or any other suitable material, made'in any desirable forni or shape, and ornamented to suit' taste or convenience'. v This eapjinstead pt being firmly secured to the button, as -is usually-done, is inadedetachable, and pro vided with any Vsuitable fastening, whereby the saine 'can ber-readily attached to or detached from the button. When the ccp is to he attached to a button, the bridge is opened and 'slipped through between the hntt'on and the fabric ormaterial to which sd hutten is fastened, and by turning the cap down it is retained by the lips b, and thehutt'o'n is perfectly concealed. r I' i l v I I By these means a. cap for buttons is obtained ivhich een be made .in a great many di`erent` shapes, for instnnce,in the shape of a shirt-sited, to cover anordinary-shirt-button, or in the shztpe o f an .nrmy or navy` button, to enable an army ornavy oilcer to apply to his coat caps of more or leesv costly rnaterial, according to the4 occasion, and if he desires to wear hiscoat'with common bhttons, he' can remove the caps without diliculty.- v Having thus described my invention,- what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,is- 'A cap, B, provided 'with a suitable fastening, whereby said cap canbe readily attached to or detached from a button, substantially as set'forth. j
