have invented a new Iniprovement in Lamp-Shade; and I do hereby'de'clare the following, when' taken in connection with the accompanying'drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a. full, clear,'and

I 1 This invention is designed as an adjustable shade for burners of lamps, gas, orother lights, and consists 'in ,the peculiar construction, whereby the shade. may be set at any desired angle, orv at any point around the burner. 4

To enable others to construct hay improvement, I will proceed to describe the same, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

I represent the' shade as. attached'to a coniinon gas-burner. A band or ring,l A, upon which is formed a socket, al, is placed around the burner, and into the socket a an ann, B, is inserted, and so as to turn freely therein from righttolet, asv denoted in iig. 3, and from the saidl arin B project two arms C C, formed from wire or other sembelastic material. D is the shade, fornied from any suitable material, 4and is of plate, near` the two edges offwhich'are fixed sockets d, so as to'receive the end of theV arms O, thenatural position of the arms C being to approach each othernerer than the distance of the two sockets d from cach other, so that one arm, C, is inserted into one socket; the other arm sprung out, as denoted in red, will, when released, spring into and enter -tho other socket tl, as denotedin figj 2. The action of the spring,-`bearing in the two sockets' d d, permits the free'inovement of the shadeto diiierent inclinations, as denoted iniig. 1, andyet so as to hold the shade at any desiredinelination.
