IMPROVEMENT IN' PARLOR contsimens @tip gitane aferra tu im that tetter man ma mating gaat at ripara. l
Beit known` that I, SrLvESTER ALBEE, of Providence, in the county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Parlor CoalSi-fters; and I do hereby declare l that the following isa full andexact description thereof, referencebeinp,r had to the accompanying drawings,
-and to the letters of reference, marked. thereon.
The naturcof my invention consists i'n hanging, within a neat, tight box or case, a cylinder or prism, made y of sieve-cloth,ropen on one side, said cylinder being provided with radialarms, which, as the 4cylinder oscillates,
comc'sin contact'with stops fixed to the inside of thc'box,lone of the stops being movable,so that, when with'- drawn, the sieve may be turned bottom-sidenp.v v To enablelothers skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceedto 'describe its construe;
tion and use. In. the drawingsi Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved parlor coal-sitter.
Figure 2 is a vertical section of the same, longitudinally with the sieve. 'Figure 3 is a cross-vertical section of the same. v M N is the case, made ina-ny style and shape, and provided with an lash-draw, V, having@l handle, S is a shaft, extending-through the box,-uponwhich is hung the cylindrical or `prismatic sieve, a c dfg. The top, a b c d, fig'. 1, and', fig. 3, is open, so that unsii'ted coal may be turned into it, the upper part ofthe case having a door, T,fto permit of this being done. At the lower angles of the sieve are two arms, B C, which, as
vthe sieve is oscillated, comein contact with-the stops D-and K, tig.' 3, thus giving to the sieve a kind oi'jerking motion, as it is oscillated by the' handle-or crank I. The stop K is not fixed permanently to the case, but is attached to the shaft I, figs. 1 and 3, so that iffthe shaft I be revolved, Ythe stop K will swing aronnd out of the way of the arms B C. The shaftI is operated by the handle II. l
It'will be seen,vfrom inspection of thedrawings, thatif the stop K be turned away, the sieve may be turned bottom-side up, the arm C coming in -contact with D', tigl 3, by which operation thciba'l will be emptied into To use my invention, I proceed as follows: AThe coal and ashes are placed inthe sieve, the stop K is turned into place, and the sieve rapidly -oscillated buck and forward, its motion being limited by the radial 'arms B and-G, until the ashes 4have all been lseparated and collected in the draw V, from whence they may be taken and-the draw replaced. .Nw, ifl wo lswing the stop K vout of place, the sieve may be turned bottom-side up,
'and the coal in its turn emptied intothe drawV.
Having thus described myinvention, I willnow proceed toset forth my claim. Y What I claim as my invention, and desire to seciire .by Letters Patent of the nitcdstatcgisf- V'lhe radial arms-B C, in combination `with' thc sieve a 5 c elf, and movable-stop K, substantially as described and foi-"tho purpose set forth, v
. v SYLVESTER ALBEE.
