MOSES J. JONES, OF FREDONIA, YORK. Letters Patent No. 73,341, dated January -14, 1868.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAW-FRAMES.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, MOSES J. JONES, of Fredonia, in the county of Chautauqua, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-straining Saw-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A and B represent a saw-frame, which is in the shape of a bow. A portion of this frame is made of wood and a portion of metal, the metal portion acting as a spring. 0 represents the saw, which is similar to the buck-saws in common use. One end of this sawis inserted in a mortise in the wooden part of the frame A, and secured by means of a pin passing through it and the frame The other end of the saw is slipped into a slot in the end of the spring B of the frame, and is there retained by a pin, which passes through it. In order to pass the end of the saw into this slot, it is necessary to compress the spring B. The strength of the spring is made sufficient to keep the saw securely confined in the slot after having been once caught. The spring B may be made of any suitable material, and of any shape desirable.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The saw-frame A B, constructed as described, and used for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this 20th day of September, 1867.
Moshe J. JONES. [a 5.]
