Letters Patent No. 72,003, dated December 10, 1867.
' IMPROVEMENT IN PIVOT-GEARING.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. Ducnnswn, of Lacon, in the county of Marshall, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Side or Pivot-Gearing, applicable to threshing or other machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a sectional view,

Figure 3 a top view.
My invention consists in an improved side-gearing or pivot-gearing, applicable to threshing or other machines, by meails of which the power may bereadily shifted to any direction from the machine, or the v location of the machine may be changed to any direction from the power. A threshing-machine may, by this invention, be shifted, as often as a change of the wind may require it, to any side of or direction from the horsepower, without the necessity of re-setting the latter, or of reversingthe power.
To accomplish this, I provide a circular bed-plate, A, attached to the machine, and supported by the brace, B, so as to carry the pinion-plate B and uprightblock E, with the gearing attached thereto. The pinion-plate or frame B, being attached to the upright centre-post or block E, can he revolved around the upright shaft T,
which carries the genr-wheelsVand X, and operates the cylinder M. Italso supports the connecting-shaft.
D, with its gear-wheel, W, and moves it to any direction required, where it may be secured by means of the setscrew S and the coupling-plate O. This coupling-plate, being secured to the pinion-plate B, may be secured at any point in the periphery of the circular bed-plate A, which is provided with the holes h h h, to receive the set-screw S. In fig. 3, the dotted lines show how the direction of the connecting-shaft D may be changed. In this figure, the wheels W and V are omitted for cdnvenience. Itwill be readily seen how the direction of the machine from the horsepower may be changed to suit every necessity that may arise.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The circular bed-plate A, in combination with the pinion-plate B and coupling-plate C, secured by the setscrew S, the whole arranged and operating substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
