Be it known that we, C. M. LORING and EZEKIEL AVERELL, both of Charlestown, in the county of'Middlesex, in the State of Massachusetts, have inventecl'a new and usefulA Improvement in Nursery-Chairs; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of tliersanc,` reference being had to the drawing accompanying this specification, and making. part of the same, in which--` Figure 1 is a perspective view ofthe combined chair and standing-stool.

Figure 2 is a separate view of the chair; and 1 Figure 3 is a view of the-plaything-holder or table.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the figures.

The object of this invention is to combine in one article of furniture a childs chair, a dining-chair, and a"f standing-stool, in such a manner that each, when separate, may be used for the purpose designed, and when combined will make a dining-chair for children. l

a, fig. 1, represents the -standing-stool, which may be used separately from thc chair b, for the purpose of assisting a child in learning to walk, and retaining it on its feet. Onl the top of this stool is placed the chair i b, the legs of this chair fitting into holes on the top of thc stool a, `where it is held firmly.` This chair is niacin to serve the'purpose of an ordinary childs chair, having a hinged sea-t, c, fitting in place, as in iig. 1, when not in use as a privy-chair, for which purpose it may also be used. The playthng-holder or table d may he attached to the chair Z2 or to the standing-stool a, having on each side pins ee, which {it into corresponding recesses in the arms of the chair b, the arms being made suihciently elastic to spring `out fo admit th\e\pirrs coming back into place, and" holding the table when fitted in. These arms are pivotedat the end, under the stool, so as to4 be moved in under the stool when not in use.

The chair and Stool should be made of such materials as will best"l answer the purpose, and the height, when combined, should be convenient for use at a dining-table by a child. The combination ofthe chair and stool in i l l the manner shown makes a. very useful article of furniture, easily put together, and not occupying much space. It may beused for a. variety of purposes, and when combined as a dining-chair is safe, and not liable to be upset.
