Be it known that I, ROBERT T. Moss, of Cambridge, in the county of Guernsey, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Mode of AttachingBuckles and Rings to Harness; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

The nature of my invention consists in the use of sheet-metal plates, provided with Suitable slots for receiving the tongues of bucklesfand with holes through which said plates may be riveted to the leather strap to which it is desired toconnectthe buckle; and further, in the general use of metal plates, which are adapted by their formation and structure to the connecting of rings and buckles to leather straps.

In the drawings AArepresent the metallic plates. These plates may be made in a variety o f forms, according to the uses for which they may be designed. In Figures 5 and 6 the plates are represented with slots or openings C C, for the tongue of the buckle. After tbeftongue is inserted the plates are bent down, so that their two ends u embrace the leather 'strap to be confined, and rivets are then inserted through the plates and through theleather, conning the two'rmly together. In g. 5 the plate is cut with wings at one end, which bend over on a line from x to embracing the opposite end ef the plat-e. B B represent the buckles. In iig. 2 a. plate is represented, a plate bent over the two ends of a keeper, for the purpose of confining said keeper to the strap.
