dite rigrtul neemt tu in than Writers intent mit making putt nf tige time.
TO ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO F. SMITH, of Ellsworth, in the county ofHancock, and vState oi' Maine, hai/o invented a new end useful Ventilator and Spark-Annihilator for the smoke-discharge pipe of a stove; andiI do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is o. side elevation,
Figure 2 a longitudinal and vertical section,
Figure 3 a horizontal section, and
Figure 4 atransverse section of it. l
In such drawings, A denotes an elongated box, having a. parti-tion, B, extending across and within it near its top. It also has another partition, C, carried across it below the partition B,.and at a. short distance from ono end of the box, and down to the bottom ofthe box. Both partitions are foraminous, or are perforated with holes a n a, b Zi b. An induction pipe, D, leads up through the bottom of the box, and to and opens through the partition B. Furthermore, an @duction pipe, E, leads out of one end ot' the box, and there are two or any other suitable number of air-conduits F, leading lengthwise through the box and into the escape pipe E; each pipe F opening through the rear end of the box, in order that air from the atmosphere surrounding the box may enter and pass through the pipo or pipes F and into the escape pipe or iiue E. Over the upper end of the pipe D, and attached to the top of the box is a c'oncavo-convex deiiector G. y Y
The apparntus so mede is intended to be applied to the smoke-discharge iiuo' of a stove, in such manner as to canse the smokerfrorn the stove to pass up through the pipe D, and into the space H 'over the partition B, thence through the holes a a 11 b, tbc., of the two partitions B C, and thence into the pipeE, the deiiector G serving to deflect and distribute the smoke upon the partition B. The pipes F when heated by the smoke will cause currents of air t'o escape from the apartment in which the stove they be, and thus thc room will be ventilnted of bed air. The soot and carbonaceous matters in the smoke will be intercepted by and consumed within the box A., whore they will operate to heat such box, and thereby aid in heating the air surrounding it. In making the application, the escape pipe of the stove is to be -lcd' into'the pipe D, and the pipe F is to conduct the smoke to the chimney. Under these circumstances the smoke discharged from the stove will, before passing into the chimney, be caused to iiow through the apparatus.
I claim the said ventilator and spark-annihilator, made substantially as described, vizi, of the box A, the induction and @duction smoke pipes D'E, the perforated partitions B C, and the Ventilating pipe or pipes E, or with the some and the dciloctor G arranged as specified.
ANTONIO F. SMITH.
