PATENT OFFICE.
HIRAM INMAN AND HORACE INMAN, OF AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN SECURING THE ENDS OF FELLIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70, 13 8, dated November 5, 1867.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, HIRAM INMAN and HORACE INMAN, both of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Device for Securing the Ends of Fellies, and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of its construction and advantages thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, mak? ing a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side sectional view of our felly device; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the wheel-rim, taken in the red line, and exhibiting a view of our felly device.
A device for securing the ends of fellies of wood has long been sought for, so as to hold them firmly, or in a permanently rigid manner, in their proper positions. This desideratum is admirably accomplished by the en1 ployment of our invention.
To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct the same, we will proceed to describe it as follows:
It consists simply of a solid or single piece of metal, formed with a shallow webor body, A, round which is the double-beveled rims or ribs B, which are intended to receive the chamfered ends of the fellies, as is shown in both figures. Our device has a projection, 1), formed thereon, to be inserted into an elongated indentation in the tire c,'as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, in lieu of a bolt or screw. The exterior flanges or ribs B exactly correspond with the sectional area of the fellies, as shown at d, Fig. 1. The ends ot the fellies e e are beveled, as is represented in' Fig. 1, so as to fit into the rim or flange B, as already explained.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The device for securing the ends of fellies, constructed substantially as described.
