TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, S. HAMILTON CAUGHEY, of the city and county of Baltimore, and State of Maryland, h v inven e a new and improved Evaporator and Deflector for Hot-Air Registers; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which aremade part of this specification, and in which the figure is a perspective view.
This device contains water, and is intended to be attached to the grating or register opening, so as to defiect the air intethe apartment, either against and around the tank so as to evaporate the water freely, or more directly into the room, carrying less moisture.
In the drawings, A A. are the sides of the rectangular box, which is open on the back in contact with the grating of the register, and suspended by the hooks B B. The sides of the box are closed, except at the openings b b, which are provided with doors d. Inside the box A is a water-trough, D, whose shape is indicated by dotted lines, and which is partly visible through the open perforated door E. The top F of the box is likewise perforated, and the lower portion of the front has a door, G, which is opened or closed, as occasion may require.
When it is desired to let the heated air come from the register with but little moisture the doors G Li are opened, which permit the air to pass with comparatively little evaporating efl'ect upon the water in the tank. By closing the doors d the moisture is increased, and when the door G is also closed the body of heated air rises and impinges upon the under side of the tank, thence up its inner side, and over it, to pass out at the perforations of the door and the box top. The hooks B B slide on the bars L L, so as to be adjustable to reach such points on the front of the register as may afford convenient means for attachment.
7 Having described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The box A, with its perforated top, doors E d and G, and water-tank, arranged substantially as described and represented.
S. HAMILTON CAUGHEY.
