L. A. SUNDERLAND', OF CHAGRIN FALLS, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 67,607, dated August 6, 1867.
DAIRY GAN- fitlge fitlgmule marsh in in this: game $21M nut making wt at flge same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAYCONGERN:
Be it known that I, L. A. SUNDERLAND, of Chagrin Falls, in the county of Ouyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dairy Cans; and I.do hbreby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which. 7
Figure 1 is a side view of the can.
Figures 2, 3, and 4 are detached sections that will be referred to in the description.
LIke letters of reference refer to like parts in the views.
A represents the can which, in construction and shape, is similar to the ordinary cans, the cover being allowed to pass inside, and supported by the hooks B, fig. 1. At equal distances apart on the can are secured the four screws 0. These are for the purpose of holding the supplementary bottom D in place by passing said screws through the caps G, on the upper edge of the bottom D, and then secured by means of the nuts a on the ends of the screws. This bottom consists ofthe metallic plate D, with deep flanges on each side, and radial arms E on the underside, a View of which is shown in fig. 2. These arms are for the purpose of strengthening the plate D' of the bottom. On top of this plate is the wooden lining F, a detached view of which is shown in fig. 3. 'This lining is provided with a. boss, F, which projects through the opening in the centre of the bottom D, and, when in use, forms a central support for the can. Placed on this wooden lining is a rubber plate or elastic bed, I, fig. .4, which figure is a vertical section of the supplementary bottom, showing the relative position of the parts'to eachcther. By means of this supplementary bottom, which 'aids insupporting and strengthening the bottom of the can, there is no fear of its breaking or giving way by means of the weight on the bottom when the can is filled, and the rubber renders it elastic and giving to the weight and pressure of the can.
What I claimas my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The supplementary bottom D, with radial arms E, lining F, andwcentral support or boss F, as arranged in combination with the can A, for the purpose and in the manner described.
L. A. SUNDERLAND.
