Letters .Patent No. 66,981, dated July 23, 1867.
IMPROVBD CARPET-PASTENER.
@im rlgehule tefemr In iu lgrse httets @anni mit milking putt nf tige same.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN MATSON, of-Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield, and State ot' Connecticut, have invented a new improvement in Carpet-Fastening; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection withthe accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specication, and represent in Figure 1, a perspective view of the fastener, and in Figure 2, a. perspective view illustrating its operation.
This invention is designed to be fixed to the door, and the carpet introduced into it and there firmly held.
and consists in the arrangement of a screw-clamp fixed to the Hoor, so that the carpet may be introduced therein' and firmly secured, and so that it may be released or removed at pleasure.
In order to the better understanding of my invention, as well as to enable others to construct the same, I will proceed to a. description thereof, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
A is the base, at right angles from which extends an upright, B, .supporting in a lng` D, projecting therefrom, a screw, C,.so that the screw C may be turned down on to the base, or on to the carpet placed thereo` and so as tc clamp it {irmly therein. The base A is provided with one or more holes a, by which it is secured to the door.
The fastener is set and secured to the floor, as seen in iig. 2, closeup to the base B. The edge of the carpet is then introduced below the screw C, and when so introduced, the screw C is turned down on to the carpet, clamping it securely at that point, as many of the fasteners being used and at such points as it is desired to secure the edge ofthe carpet. An indentation, d, Ain the base below the screw, aids materially in securing the carpet, yet it is not essential. The head of the screw I prefer to form so as to be turned with the thumb and flug-er, yet it may be otherwise arranged. V
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and uset'ul,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The carpet-fastener, consisting of the base A,A upright B, and lug D, with the screw C, constructed substantially as herein described, as an article of manufacture.
JOHN' MATSON.
