TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, E. S. MovLgron, of Plymouth, in the county of Wayne, and in the State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Bag-Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. I
In the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, A representsa platform, upon which is erected a standard, B. 0 represents a metallic hoop made about the size of the mouth of an ordinary bag, and provided with teeth or pins upon its upper edge, upon or over which the mouth of the bag is secured. This hoop is secured to a metallic loop, I, which surrounds the standard B, said loop being provided witli ears on the side opposite the hoop, between which ears the cam-lever H is pivoted. This lever is for the purpose of stationing the loop, with its hoop, to the standard. E represents a cross-piece, which has a mortise cut through its centre through which the standard passes. This cross-piece is secured to the hoop C by means of two braces G G, and to the loop I, by means of a connecting-bar or strap F. The cross-piece E slides up and down upon the standard with the hoop and loop, and acts as a guide as well as a stay and brace for the hoop. When a bag. is to be filled it is placed upon the platform A, and'its mouth is caught upon the pins 01 d of the hoop. The hoop C is then raised upoh the standard until the bag is extended itsdength, and the loop I is stationed at this point by -means of the cam-lever H. When the bag has been filled the hoop can belovvered and the mouth. removed from the pins of the hoop. i
I am aware that hoops connected to standards and adjusted thereon are not new. By my invention the bag,'when connected to the hoop, is held perfectly secure by the oblique braces, which connect to the crosspiece E, so that if'in filling the bag the bottom thereof does not rest upon thebase A, the hoop will not break, but will he stayed by its braces. I The hoop used by me is provided with a loop, which encircles the standard, while the cross-piece E has an opening in its centre, which fits overthe standard, and readily slides-up and down on the same as required, therebyobviating the necessity of slotting the standard.
Having-thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the looped hoop G and crosspiece E, when said hoop is connected' to the cross-piece by means of the braces G G, for supporting the bag; and secured upon the standard A by means of the eccentric lever H and bar F, as set forth. p
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 9th day ofApril, 1867.
w E. S. MOULTON.
