TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Bc it known that I, CHARLES CROLEY, of Dayton, in lthe county of Montgomery, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and improved Bed-Bottom; and I do hereby d eclare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. Like letters occurring on the different figures' refer to like parts. i
The nature of my invention consists in constructing an elastic bed-bottom of wood which is adjustable laterally. Y
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my intention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Figure 1 represents a top view of the bed-bottom.
Figure 2 representsan end View. v
f represents projections attached to the rail e, which correspond to feet, four of which form the base of the bottom. On these rails rest the pieces a and b, which are securely attached. These pieces are constructed alike, both ends being slotted or eut away to near the centre, and toieach are attached metallic clasps, c, which embrace the other piece. The two pieces overlapping form a bed or support for the top rails d, the two lateral rails of which are screwed to the four pieces a and b at either end. The other rails are sustained in position by an elastic cord, z', of rubber, to which the several rails are eonnectedon their under surface. For keeping the intermediate rails in position equivalent means may be used instead of the rubber strap or cord. Each of the pieces a and b is sustained by its inner end resting within the clasps of the other, in which the movement is free, and consequently the bottom is readily adjusted to bedsteads of' varying widths. The form of the pieces a and b is such that the ends spring under pressure, thus adding elasticity to that of the rails.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The construction of the supporting pieces a and b with slotted ends, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
l CHARLES CROLEY.
