T0 ALL WHOM I'l MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, A. H. BROWN, of Springfield, in the county of Windsor, and .State of Vermont, have invented a 1ew and improved Meat-Hammer; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part ot` this speciication. I
This invention relates to a. new and improved hammer for pounding meat, in order to render the. same tender; and it consists in having the face or faces of the hammer provided with one or more annular, sharp, or V-shaped edges, as hereinafter fully .shown and described, whereby the meat will not only be made tender, b ut the jucies of the meat also retained in it. In the accompanying sheet of drawingsv Figure l is a. side sectional view ot my inven'iion, taken in the line a: zu, iig.
Figure 2, an end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
A represents the hammer, and B the handle thereof. The handle may be ot` wood, and the hammer of' metal, east or wrought iron, or steel; cast iron will probably answer the purpose. This hammer is provided with two faces, one at eaeh end. This is not strictly necessary, but it may as well have two faces as one, as two faces will not angm ent the cost of manufacture. These faces are provided with one or more annular Vshaped or sharp edges, a a. Tn'o of such edges are-shown on each face, and this probably would be the mostl desirable number. These annular edges, under the force of the blows, sink into the meat, and bruise it so as to render it tender, and att-he same time form channels o1' recesses to receive the juices of the meat.
This is an important feature, as in otherdiammers and devices for this purpose no provision is make to retain the juices. The corrugated pressure-rollers allow all the juices to escape, and thecorrngated-fz100d hammers in use form perfect escape-channels for the escape ot" ljuices.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secnrc by Letters Patent- A meat-hammer having its face or faces provided with one or more annular edges, substantially as and for thevpnrpose herein set forth. l
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 4th day of' February, 1867.
A. H. BROWN.
