TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN Be it known that I, JOHN LYLE, of Newark-in the county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented 1 a new and improved Combination Tool; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear7 and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure represents aside elevation of this invention.

This invent-ion consists in a tool provided with a u-shaped jaw, which forms the bearings for the fulcrumpins of two movable jaws, which` in combination' with the ends ofthe u-shaped jaw, form two tools of a di'er- 'ent nature, such as plyers on one and a punch on the other side, or a punch on one and an eyelet-fastener on :the 'opposite side; and a tool is thus obtained which is cheap and ofigreat convenience; A suitable "stop, which passes through holes in the u-shaped jaw and in the movable jaw, serves to throw either of said movable jaws cnt of work.

A represents a u-shaped jaw, which is made of steel or any other suitable material, and which forms the bearings for the pivots a of the movable jaws B C. From these jaws extend the handles DYE and a spring, b, which is riveted to one of these handles, serres to force these handles apart, the same as in an ordinary handpunch or other tool of' a similar nature. One of the jaws B is provided with a punch, e, which, in combination with an anvil, d, secured in, one end of the u-shaped jaw7 forms a hand-punch, while the other jaw, C, in combinatoinwith the second end of the u-shaped jaw, forms a pair of' nippers or plyers; but it is obvious that the fzorm or construction of the jaws may be changed in many different ways, and vtools for different purposes may be combined in the same u-shaped jaw.

If one of the tools is to-be used, the other must be thrown out of work. This object is accomplished by means of a stopw, which passes through holes g in the u-shaped jaw and through corresponding holes in the movable jaws, so that by meansof this stop either ot' said movable jaws can be locked and the other jaw can be used to the best advantage. I

By this arrangement a combination tool is obtained which can bc made cheap, and which performs the same function as two ordinary tools. A

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is A 1. The u-shaped jaw A in combination with two movable jaws B C and handles D E, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose described` ,l

2. The stop f in combination with the u-shaped jaw A and movable jaws B C, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purpose set forth.'
