:TQ ALL WHOM 1T VMAY CONGERN; Y
VBe it known thnt I, J. REINECER', of New Orleans. in the parish ofjOrlea'ns, arid State of Louisiana, have invented' a Vnewand improved Hoop Lock or Claspzfoi' theHoops ot' Baies; and I do heizeby declare that tho following is s full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled lin the art to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forniingpart of this specification, in whichu VFigure 1 is as external 'view of my invention applied to the hoop nl' shale. l i

Figure 3, atleta-chad longitudinal Section of the clasp or look anddhe ends o? :i h nle hoop, showing the manner in which theV ends of" the latter are connected hy the former.:-

'This invention relates to a. new andY improved :lock or clasp for connecting together ornsecnring the ends of the'lnetai hoops of cotton and other haies, :ndit''onsists otfa plate of enst or wroxght irgend, having an opening made in it to ndinit'ot' one' ond-of 'the hoop being `setiured it, :md also having an nhliqne opening formed of m'o'parullel inclined sides,- 'through which opening the other end lof -the .hoop is passed, 'thc-sharp edges of the' ohliquc opening. under the expansion of thebalc, grasping' the bale hoopiand handing it in such a manner :1s-to form Vn sonni-c connection. y I l i A A represent the two ends `cfa metal 4bale hoop. constructed nl" hoop iron as usual, and B is n. platelet' east ov wrought inetnl, having nnl opening.A a, in it at one end, with its outer sjide rounded to form a har, b, around which one end, A. ofthe hoop is bent to form :i secure connection, :is shown ings. 2 and 3. These plates may be secured to the end A of the hoops before the hoops are iittcd toA thc press-box. The plate B, has another opening, e, in it-iiear its opposite end, said-openinghaving inelined sides, d d, as shown in figs. '2 and 3, to form sharp edges orangles, e, oneatthc outer and the other at the inner side ol the plate.l `then the cotton or other material is eolnprcsscd inthe press and the hoops app'lied tothe bale, the ends A' are passed thronghthe oblique openings c, the plates B being inclined or adjusted yin angoblique position, (see fig. 3,) and` whenl the follower and platen ofthe pressure moved back, the bale will of course expand, and the plates B, nnde'r the expansion of the bale, will be drawn parallel with the side of the same, as shown in g. 2, and the'cnds A' of the hoops bent by the angles or edges e e of the'opeuing c, so that they cannot be drawn outfrom said openings, and the hoops therefore will be firmly` secured on the bale. It will be seen that :ill hammering, riveting, etc., are avoided, vand the fastening of the ends of the hoops effected with the greatest facility.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentv The plate B, provided with the semicicular opening.a and theopening c, with inclined sides d, presenting two sharp edges or angles to the strap, substantially as described for the pnrposespecilied.`
J. BEINECKER.
