Description

@uiten tetes eteat @Hite ISAAC TJPACKARD, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINIS. Letters .Patent No. 61,241, dated January 15, 1867.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, VISAAC.' T. PACKARD, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, in the State ot' Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Reed and Pipe Musical Instruments; and I do 'hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference bein a part of this specification', and the letters of reference thereon.
. The nature of my invention consists of an improved method ofY connecting levers and tracker pins or tracker rods in the action workfreed and pipe musical instruments, whereby I secure entire freedom of action and perfect stillness of movement, even when the work is so small that it is impracticable to bush with felting or other soft material.
By reference to the accompanying drawing it will be seen that A represents a lever, at the right-hand end of which is inserted a small wire of appropriate size, which passes through a hole in the tracker rod B, which hole may he suciently large to let the wire in the lever pass with freedom. At C is an elastic band, represented by red lines, passing around the trackerrod and connected to the lever by being drawn into a slot cut for the purpose on the upper edge. Instead of the elastic band, a small spiral spring may be used with loops at each end, one of which may pass around the tracker, while the other is connected with the lever in a similar manner to the elastic hand. But' I find that the small rubber bands, styled as No. 20, are the most desirable for practical purposes and secure the most perfect stillness and freedom of movement.
This invention is particularlyintended for and applicable to reed musical instruments and Wherever lever and tracker connections are desired, either in these or church organs by all conversant with these instruments.
Having described my invention and its use, what I cla-im, and `desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follotvs:
I claim as my invention the use of an elastic band, or its equivalent, forrthe purpose herein described .and set forth.
