Letters Patent No. 60,082, dated November 27, 1866. I
SPECjlcsATION;l
'TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: I
Be it known that we, JAMES R. STREET .and SIDNEY M. DAVIS, of the city of Washington. District of Columbia, have invented an improved Faucet; and we do hereby declare that the'following is a. full, clear,` and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference'being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification.
. Figure 1 is Simply a chamber, containing the spiral spring, 2,' the plunger, 3, andthe gum-ball valve, 4.
Figure 2 is a spiral sprin g, which, acting upon the plunger, compresses it against `the ball, thus forcing the latter against the valve seat, a a. i
Figure 3 is the plunger, which, acted upon by the spring, performs its oce of closing the valve. Figure 4 is a ball, formed of gum-elastic, which acts as a valve. Figure 5 is the cap, which is provided with a washer of gum to prevent leakage. Figure 6 is the orifice through which the liquid passes in its escape frein theenclosure. FigureYis the barrel of the faucet. ,5. i A a is the valve seat, so constructed as to induct the gum ball or valve, rendering escape of liquid impossible. C c is the outlet or nozzle. H is the knob of plunger. l I' It will be seen that the arrangement above described possesses the advantage of securing, in `a simple` manner, a Self-closing faucet, adapted, by its `elastic ball valve and sharp or conical valve seat, to prevent all leakage. By the rotation permitted to the ball, valve, unequal wear is prevented, and `byproper location of the parts in relation to each other, the same valve closes both at the same time.
We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination and arrangement of the barrel 7, cap 5, plunger 3, spiral spring'2, elastic ball valve 4, raised valve seat a, inlet passage 6,V and exit port c, all substantially as shown and described.
JAMES R. STREET, I SIDNEY M. DAVIS.
