Beit known that I, PETER BADoRE,-of Montpelier, in the county of Washington, and State of Vermont, have invented a ynewdand useful improvement in Dies for forging and shaping steel bars for the -'loe Calks of l Horse-Shoes; and I do hereby-(ledere that the following is a'full, clear and'le'xact iescription thereof, which will enable others skilled-in theart to make and use the same, reference beinghafl to the accompanying draw ings, forming partof this specification, in which- Figure 3 isva perspective view of the sweclge for drawing the steel t'o an edge for forming the calks,'show y ing, in red lines, a piece of steel in place.

Figure 4 is a vertical cross section of the saine. Similar letters of reference indicate like parts. I My invention has for its object to furnish swedges, by'. the use of which the steel may be drawn to an edge quickly and uniform1y,`for forming toe calks for horse-shoes. Q

A is the swel'lge for drawing the steel to an edge and into proper shape for forming the toe Callis. Upon thelower side of the plate a,1 of vthe swedge A is vformed a shank a2, which tits into a hole in the anvil in theA ordinary manner. Upon the npper'side or face of the plate al is ormed a groove'or longitudinal notch, having the exact form which itis desired that the steel `should have when drawn to an edge for, formingthe calks. The calks are then formedand connected to the'shoe for heating and-welding in the ordinary mann-e1'. I
