IMPROVED BURGLAR ALARM.
SPZEGIFIOAJIION.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, CnARLns A. BLAKE, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved Burglar Alarm; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to theaccompanyingdrawings forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to a novel and extremely simple burglar alarm, which in operation and use is quite eiiicient and certain, as will be apparent from.the following detail description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings, in which Figure 1 is a transverse horizontal section through a door and its fiame, showing my improved burglar alarm applied to it.
Figure 2, a plan or top view of the burglar alarm detached; and Figures 3 and 4, detail views to be hereinafter referred to. p l A, in the drawings. represents a block or plate of metal or other suitable material, which constitutes the holder for my improved burglar alarm, and is at each end provided with holes, B, to receive screws ,for fasteningv it in position, either to a door or window frame, as may be desired. On this block, A, parallel uprights, G, are
secured, between which extends a hollow tube or barrel, D, having at its closed end a friction primer, E, that by means of its looped and, F, is hung to and upon the pin or stud, G, of a forked lever or arm, H, hung by the ends of its forked arms to and upon lugs, I, of the block A, so as to swing or turn. This lever arm, H, at one end, J, is flattened, and when the block having my improved alarm arranged upon it, as above explained, is secured to the door frame, projects beyond the edge of the door frame into proper position for being acted upon by the door, as it is swung open, and thus through it moving the friction primer in such a manner as to cause it to explode the primer, and consequently produce sufiicient noise to awaken and alarm the occupants of the room or house to which such doorway constitutes the entrance, as is obvious without any further explanation. When my improved burglar alarm is to be used upon windows, the lever, L, shown detached in figs. 3 and 4, is
employed, this lever being hung by its centre or fulcrum pin, N, in the socket, O, of the alarm block, A, and by its end pin, P, then hung to the primer loop, F.
- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent V [he block A, primer E, and forked lever H, or lever L, when combined and arranged together substantially as and for the purpose described.
CHAS. A. BLAKE.
