THOMAS J. BROWN, OF GLIO, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-HUSKERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 57,283, dated August 21, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS J. BROWN, of Clio, in the county of Greene and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Corn-Huskers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, made part of this specification, in which it is shown in perspective.
A is a plate of sheet metal, formed to the shape of the hand at the base of the palm, and extending as far toward the fingers as is necessary to protect the hand withoutinterferin g with the free action of the fingers. A projecting point, C, is riveted or otherwise attached to this point, as shown in the drawing, projecting from the plate toward the little finger diagonally, as shown, and attached under the base of the thumb. This point is slightly bent at the upper extremity forward, for its more ready insertion into the husk.
The plate thus prepared is riveted to a band of leather, B, which passes around the hand,
being secured by a stud-shaped button,D,and
button-hole, or by a buckle, or in any other convenient manner. A hole through the leather at the end. of the plate permits the thumb to be passed through it.
In operating with this husker, the ear of corn is held in the left hand and the husk is ripped by the point 0 by pushing with the right hand, to which the husker is fitted.
What I claim as my invention, and seek to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A corn-husker constructed with a flexible band, B, to which is fastened the plate A, covering the interior palm of the hand, and having attached thereto the curved point C,
projecting toward the fingers, substantially as a set forth.
