IMPROVEMENT IN CULTIVATORS.

BUOKNALL, of Darien, Walworth connty, State of Wiscon sin, have invented a new and Improved Cultivator and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thercof, which Will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 is a side sectional view of my invention, taken in the line 00 90, Fig. 2 Fig. 2, a plan or top view of the same; Fig. 3, a

This invention relates to a new and improved cultivator for cultivatng plowed gronnd, eradicatin g the weeds th erefrom and pulverizin g de soil.
The invention consists in a novel construction of the device, whereby the teeth may be made to penetrate into the earth at a greater or less depth,-as may be desired, and elevated entirely above the surface of the gronnd when occasion may reqnireas, for instance, in drawing the device from place to place.
The invention also consists in a novel manner of attaching the draft-pole to the machine, and in a novel construction or arrangement of the cultivatorteeth, as hereinaiter fully set forth.
A represents a rectangnlar frame, to the front end of which two lever-frames, B B, are attached by joints et a. These levenframes have curved or segment guides C O passing through them, the lower ends of said guides being attached by joints b to the frame A, and having a series of holes, c, made in them, through any of which pins d in the leverframes pass, said pins having spiral springs a on them to force the pins into the holes as the lever-frames are raised or lowered.
The frame A is supported by two wheels, D D, the axles E of which are secured to the lever-frames B B, and it Will be seen that by adjusting the lever-framcs higher or lower the frame A may be raised or lowered at a greater or less depth above the snrface'of the ground.
F represents the draft-pole of the machine, the rear end of which is secured by a bolt, f, to one of the cross-bars 9 of the frame A, and is secnred to the front crossbar, 7L, of said frame by means of a yoke, G, having two screw-bolts, i z, passing throngh its ends, one at each side of the draft-pole, F, a wooden block, j, being at the bottom of the yoke, on which the draft-pole rests.

1 represents the standards, to which the teeth J are attached. These standards are of cylindrical form, and pass through the framing, the latter resting on shoulders k on the standards, and the upper ends of the latter havingscrew-nnts l npon them. (Ses Fig. 1.) These standards are braced by inclined rods m.
The lower parts of teeth J are of diamond or lozenge shape, gradually tapering at their npper parts and bent in semi-oylindrical form, so as to fit over the standards I, the upper ends of the teeth having lips n, which are bent around the standards, so as to completely encompass them.
The standards I are curved forward at their lower parts, and the teeth J are also curved in a similar direction.
By this arrangement the cultivator-teeth are firmly secnred in position, being well braced, and the lower ends of the teeth are secured by rivets 0 to the lower ends of the stand ards.
