Description
T. w." BROWN. [amp Bracket.
Pa tentgd July 17, 1866'.
k u m g III///////// Zgh A aZZor/(g I UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICEO THoMAs w. BROWN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVED LAMP-BRACKET.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,361, dated July 17, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs W.'BROWN, of the city. county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Brackets; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a perspective View of a bracket provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is afront elevation, Fig. 3 a side View, Fig. 4 a vertical section, and Fig. 5 a horizontal section, of the socket-plate of the bracket. Fig. 6 is a side -view of the movable part A or remainder of the bracket, such part being made or cast in one piece of metal, and composed of a concavo-convex ring, a, and a bent arm, 1), ex;-
tending therefrom and terminating in a cylin drical journal, 0.
The socket-plate B, for reception of the journal and to be fastened to a wall, is also cast in one piece, and with a hook or standard, at, extending up from it, such standard being designed for the support of a reflector to go in rear of a lamp when placed within the ring of the bracket.
The socket plate, instead of being made with a projection to extend from its front face and to be bored vertically for the reception of the journal of the bracket-arm, has a recessed pro ection, c, the recess of which extends through the back of the plate f, which sup ports the projection, and such recess is open both atthe top and bottom of the projection. At the bottom of the projection the recess opens into a semicircular bearing, g, arranged below the projection and formed in the plate f.
The manner of forming the socket-plate B viz., with the said recess, the openings therefrom and through the projection, and with SL circular bearing-enables me to cast the socket plate or piece ready for use without requiring its projection to be bored out.
What I claim as my invention isl. The improved socketplate made with the recess and its openings, and the semicircular bearing arranged with the projection of such plate, substantially as specified.
2. The application of the reflector-supporter d to the socket-plate B, instead of applying it to the ringarzn in the usual manner, the same presenting advantages in the casting of the ring and its arm.
T. V. BROYVN.
