JULIUS WAIERMAN, OF NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND JOSEPH MAYER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,652, dated February 13, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J ULIUs WATERMAN, of the city and State of New York, have invented, made, and applied to use a certain new and useful Improvement in Buckles for the Bands of Skeleton-Skirts, Sto.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the said invention, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification, wherein- Figure l is an elevation of said buckle and band, and Fig. 2 is a section of the buckle and band longitudinally.
Similar letters denote the same parts. i
In the bands of skeleton-skirts it is important that the wearerbe able to adjust the length with facility, and that the buckle should not be either wide or thick, and that it should be vcheaply made and easily applied.
The nature of my said invention consists in two rectangular loops of wire or similar material upon each other and connected together at one side, the loops being free to separate on the other side for the insertion and drawing up of the moving end of the strap, said strap being passed around the outer loop and behind the inner loop, so as to bind tightly when in\ use.
In the drawings,a represents one end of the skirt-band, and b the other end or moving part of the strap. o is the inner rectangular loop of the buckle, and d is the corresponding or outer loop. These loops are attached at one side to the strap et by the strap being passed through them, and united by an cyelet, or by sewing, or in any other convenient manner, so that the one loop lies on the other.
Io use this lbuckle it is only necessary to enter the moving end of the strap through both loops and then pass it around the outer loop and beneath the other loop, as seen in Fig. 2, and the friction of the surfaces kept in contact by the strain will be found sufficient to prevent the strap pulling out, and to disconnect the same or loosen it .the bight ot' the strap and the outer loop of the buckle are slightly raised and the friction relieved.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The buckle for skirt-bands, Snc., formed of two rectangular loops, one over. the other, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my signature this 21st day of November, A. D. 1865.
J ULIUS WATERMAN.
