IMPROVED HINGE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,711, dated December 26, 1865.
To all whom 'it may concern: n
Beit known that I, SAMUEL O. FEINK, of the city of Indianapolis, county ot' Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Hinge for Gates, VVindow-Shutters, Ste.; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
llhe nature of the invention consists in peculiar construction and operation of said hinge. Said hinge to be made of brass or iron, or any other metal suitable for that purpose.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use 1nyinvention,I proceed to describe it more particularly, as follows The hinge-plate F of No. 2 of the said drawings is provided with a proper spindle, C, of said N o. 2. On the said spindle O is cast a lug (represented by D of said No. 2.) Over the said spindle C is placed the socket, (represented by A B G of Fig. 3 of said drawings,) the whole being, when in proper position, as represented by Fig. l of said drawings. The said socket A B Gr is provided with a spiral slot, (represented by E of Fig.3 aforesaid,)througl1 which the said lug D passes into the slot A G ofNo. 1, aforesaid, where it is free to turn through half of a circle. When the hinge is open, the said lug D, by striking against A. the bottom of the said slot A G, Will prevent thesaid socket A B G from being thrown off ofthe said spindle O. When the hingeis shut, the said spiral slotor groove having conveyed the said lug D below the said band B, the two leaves ofthe hinge will be free to part.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
p The combination of the said lug D, the spiral groove E, and the slot A G, when the same are constructed and operated substantia-lly as set forth.
