Description
IINITEn STATES PATENT OEEICE.,
JEREMIAH H. EARLE, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,809, dated November 7, 1865.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JEEEMIAH H. EARLE, of Fall River, in the county ofristol land Gommonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Ventilating' Hats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and letters of reference.
The nature of my invention consists in separating into two parts the body of the hat between the sweat-leather and brin inthe front part ot' the hat, on the inside, for the space ot' some three or more inches in length and one or more inches in width, so that there shall be an open space between the body ot' the hat, allowing a free and unobstructed circulation i'rom the inside of' the hat through the aperture. v
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my new and improved hat-ventilator by separating' into two parts the body ofthe hat between the sweat-leather und brim in front on the inside, so that the two parts shall be some three-sixteenthsof an inch apart. The inside part extends in width for one or more inches from the brim when it is separated from the outside part, making the hat in front to consist ot' a double body, the inside body being open at the top and bottom, extending some three or more inches, and united at either end with the outside body. The innerI part or body is made ofthe same material as the body of the hat-stit and hard-and formed on and with the hat. In front where this double body is the sweat-leather is fastened to the inside body, and the brim tothe outside. The lining is also fastened to the outside.
In a hat constructed in this way there is always an aperture in front between the sweatleather and lining otl some three-sixteenths ot' an inch in width, extending the length and depth ofthe double part or body, which permits a free circulation of air from the inside of the hat outside. A hat constructed in this way is much easier for the head than the ordinary hat, and the liability oi" its being del'aced by perspiration avoided.
This inode of Ventilating the hat may be used with the ordinary Ventilation in the top or side ot' the hat.
Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. rEhe separation ofthe body of the hat into two parts in front and making the inside part or body open at the top `and bottom, substantially as described. A
2. Fastening the sweat-leather to the inside part or body and the lining` and brim to the outside.
JEREMIAH H. EARLE.
