/ SHAVING-CUP.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,085, dated May 1, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS E. HUGHES,
of Birmingham, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Shaving-Cup; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of a soap box and looking glass, with a water cup, the whole being combined and constructed in the manner hereinafter described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction.
In the accompanying` drawings, Figure l is a side view of my improved shaving cup. Fig. 2 is a cut or sectional view of my improved shaving cup.
(a is the water cup, (b) is the soap box, (c) 1s the lid of the soap box and is furnished with a looking glass (A), (c) is the clasp used for holding the lid down to its place on the soap box, (f) is the hinge of the lid (c), (d) is the clasp of the soap box, and is used for the purpose of holding the box to its place over the cup, (g) is the hinge of the soap box, which may be moved to the right or left, (71,) is the handle of the water cup.
The dotted lines marked m represent the lid raised up.
The operation of my improved shaving cup is as follows: Raise up the lid and move the soa-p box to the right or left, ll the cup with warm water, make the lather in the soap box in the usual manner. By moving the box so as to leave the water cup about half uncovered the lather will be kept warm and moist which is a very desirable thing in shaving.
Having thus described the nature, construction and operation of my improvement, what I claim as of my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- The shaving cup as a new article of manufacture consisting of soap cup, mirror and Water receptacle, arranged and constructed as herein described and set forth.
