Abstract

A grill which has a main grilling area and a remote grilling area, and the ignition device includes a valve with which a rotatable member is engaged. The valve has two passages and the rotatable member has two slots which rotatably communicate the two passages. One passage is in communication with a first pipe which is connected to a burner in the main grilling area, and the other passage communicates with a second pipe which is extended to the remote grilling area. When proceeding the ignition process, a base flame is kept at the distal end of the second pipe and the base flame ignites the gas in a burner in the remote grilling area easily.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to an ignition device for a grill and especially for a grill having two separate grilling area and a base flame is kept beside the grilling area remote from the switch so as to easily and quickly ignite the fire at the remote grilling area. [0001]
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • A [0002] conventional grill 10 that has two separate grilling areas 11, and 12 is shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, and generally includes a main grilling area 11 on a base and a switch 13 is located for igniting the gas coming from a burner below the main grilling area 11. The remote grilling area 12 is located a distance from the switch 13 so that a pipe 14 is connected between a valve 130 and the remote grilling area 12 so as to supply gas to the remote grilling area 12. An electric ignition device 15 is located beside the switch 13 on the base and a wire 16 is extended from the ignition device 15 to the remote grilling area 12 such that the gas coming from the pipe 14 can be ignited by the electric ignition device 15. Nevertheless, the ignition action often takes several time for the remote grilling area 12 because the distance from the valve 130 to the remote grilling area 12 via the pipe 14 is too long and the gas is not supplied sufficiently. FIG. 3 shows an improved arrangement wherein a pipe 21 is connected between the valve 22 and the remote grilling area 20 and a wire 210 extends from the valve 22 and is connected to the remote grilling area 20. By this way, when operating the switch 220 connected to the valve 22, the electric ignition device connected with the wire 210 is activated simultaneously. This arrangement cannot be satisfied and the problem is still existed.
  • The present invention intends to provide an ignition device wherein another pipe for providing gas is extended to the remote grilling area such that a base flame is kept in the remote grilling area and which makes the ignition of the remote grilling area to be easy. [0003]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, there is provided an ignition device for a grill and the ignition device comprises a valve comprising a top piece, a packing and a bottom piece. Two passages are defined through the bottom piece and communicate with a first pipe which is connected to the main grilling area of the grill. A rotatable member is rotatably received in the bottom piece and has two separate slots which are movably in communication with the two passages. The rotatable member is connected to a switch. A second pipe is connected to the bottom piece and communicates with one of the two passages. A third pipe is connected to the second pipe and is extended to the remote grilling area. A single burner is connected to a distal end of the third pipe and an electric ignition device extending from the switch is located beside the single burner. [0004]
  • The present invention will become more obvious from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.[0005]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view to show a conventional grill having two grilling areas; [0006]
  • FIG. 2 shows a first embodiment of the conventional ignition device; [0007]
  • FIG. 3 shows a second embodiment of the conventional ignition device; [0008]
  • FIG. 4 is a perspective view to show the grill with the ignition device of the present invention; [0009]
  • FIG. 5 is an exploded view to show the ignition device of the present invention, and [0010]
  • FIG. 6 shows the arrangement of the ignition device of the present invention.[0011]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring to FIGS. [0012] 4 to 6, the ignition device for a grill of the present invention comprises a valve 42 comprising a top piece 420, a packing and a bottom piece 424. The valve 42 is received in a base of the grill which has a main grilling area 50 and a remote grilling area 500, each of the two grilling areas 50, 500 has a burner located below the rack thereof. Two passages 421 and 422 are defined through the bottom piece 424 and communicate with a first pipe 425 which is connected to the burner of the main grilling area 50. A rotatable member 43 is rotatably received in the bottom piece 424 and has two separate slots 431, 432 which are movably in communication with the two passages 421, 422. The rotatable member 43 is connected to a switch 433 which is accessible from an outside of the base of the grill. A second pipe 423 is connected to the bottom piece 424 and communicates with one of the two passages 421, 422.
  • A [0013] third pipe 44 is connected to the second pipe 423 and extended to the remote grilling are 500 and a single burner 45 is connected to a distal end of the third pipe 44. The burner of the remote grilling area 500 is supplied with gas from the valve 42. An electric ignition device 434 extends from the switch 433 and located beside the single burner 45.
  • By operating the [0014] switch 433, the rotatable member 43 is rotated and allows gas to be provided to the two burners of the two grilling areas 50, 500. When igniting the burner in the main grilling area 50 by a known method or way, a base flame is kept at the single burner 45. The base flame is able to burn the gas coming from the burner in the remote grilling area 500 immediately.
  • While we have shown and described the embodiment in accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention. [0015]
