J. O. RAMAGE.
Shovel Piow.
No. 19,262. Patented Feb. 2, 1858.

JOSEPH O. RAMAGE, OF
PATENT OFFICE.
LA FAYETTE, ALABAMA.
IMPROVEMENT lN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 19,262. dated February 2, 1858.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. O. RAMAGE, of La Fayette, in the county of Chambers and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flows; and I do hereby (leclarc that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side view of the plow complete. Fig. 2 is a top view of subsoil-cutter. Fig. 3 is a side view of the piece performing the functions of brace, root cutter, and securing-bolt.
Similar characters of reference in the several figures denote the same part.
The nature of my invention consists in a peculiar manner of securing the plow-point to the foot-piece, as will be hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings, H is the handle, and B the beam, curving, so as to form the stock, as
shown in the drawings. To the lower end of the stock is attached the foot-piece a by a pin, b, upon which it can turn, any desired angle being given the upper surface by means of the bolt 0 and holes (I.
S is a subsoil-point, having a slot, 0, in rear, as shown in Fig. 2.
Bis the root-cutter, having a point,f, which enters a cavity in the stock, as shown at 9, Fig. l, and on its lower face a screw-bolt, h, as shown in Fig. 3.
- The subsoil-point is laid upon the face of the foot-piece, as shown in Fig. 1, and allowed to project over the point thereof any desired distance. Bolt h of the root-cutter then passes through slot 0 and opening 2', between the stock and foot-piece, point f entering cavity in the front of the stock. Nut n is then tightened, and secures the point b to the foot-piece, as shown in Fig. 1. By this construction the loosening of nut it permits the immediate adjustment of the point, the slot 6 permitting its movement after the pressure of the lower face of the root-cutterR is removed. The root-cutter, besides its function as such, acts as brace -to the stock and securing-bolt of plow-point.
Instead ofa subsoil-point, a shovel-point, S, or a scooter-point, S, may be used, all having a slotted rear portion, as shown in the drawings.
ters Patent, is-
Connecting the piece B with the stock by point and cavity, as shown at g, and passing a bolt on the bottom of the same through opening 2' and the slot of the plow-point, whereby the said piece is made to perform the functions of root-cutter, brace, and securer of the plowpoint, substantially as hereinbefore set forth.
In testimony whereofI have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH O. RAMAGE.
