Definitions
- the present disclosure relates generally to drinking devices and containers and, more particularly, to a spill proof bottle.
- a problem with prior art spill proof drinking devices arises when the user cannot see the device while attempting to drink, for instance while driving an automobile. In those instances, the user often times has to divert his or her attention from the task at hand to properly orient the drinking device so that the spout aligns properly with the user's mouth. This has created a need for a spill proof drinking device that can be used in an open or 360 design.
- Various prior art solutions have been provided with openings along the periphery or rim of the drinking device that together with a valve provide a spill proof drinking device such as a bottle or cup that permits the user to drink from any location along the rim or edge of the lid of the drinking device. Examples of such devices are shown in United States Patent Nos.

- Figs. 5 and 6 By comparing Figs. 5 and 6 , one can observe how the combination of spinner 14, twister 32 and base 16 operate to transition spill proof bottle 10 from the closed state of Fig. 5 to the open state of Fig. 6 .
- grooves 82 of twister 32 are forced to ride tenons 84 on post 18 translating the rotational motion of spinner 14 to vertical motion of twister 32.
- twister 32 moves in channel 30 away from post top 86 outlets 28 are exposed so that liquid in container 22 can flow out of spill proof bottle 10 and permitting a user to drink.
- Fig. 7 a cross section of the spill proof bottle 10 of the present invention shown along the line 5 - 5 of Fig. 3 in the removable state, is described.
- spinner 14, twister 32 and base 16 operate to transition spill proof bottle 10 from the open state of Fig. 6 to the closed state of Fig. 5 and then to the removable state of Fig. 7 .
- grooves 82 of twister 32 are forced to ride tenons 84 on post 18 translating the rotational motion of spinner 14 to vertical motion of twister 32.
- Seal 20 of twister 32 rises above post top 86 and tabs 60 riding in slots 62 reach the top of slots 62 exerting an upward force on spinner 14.
- the upward force causes rail 48 and flange 50 to separate allowing for the removal of spinner 14 and twister 32 from lid 12 and spill proof bottle 10. Once removed from lid 12, spinner 14 and twister 32 can be separated for cleaning.
- FIG. 8 a top view of a base 16 useful in the spill proof bottle 10 of the present invention is described.
