- A graphics printing machine for printing graphics onto at least one memory medium such as a smart card (Cn) made of plastic, card, paper, or the like; the machine comprising at least one ink jet head (T1-Tq) and control means (40) for controlling the head so as to effect ink jet printing on the card (Cn), and measurement means comprising a computer aided vision system having one or more video cameras, said machine being characterized in that it further comprises dynamic measurement means for dynamically measuring geometrical shape and/or positioning parameters relating to the card (Cn), for the purpose of transmitting this measurement information to the control means (40).
- A machine according to claim 1, characterized in that it further comprises quality control means for inspecting the quality of printing (50), which means are suitable for modifying the ink jet printing parameters and are disposed after the print head.
- A machine according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that, when the media are plastics cards (Cn), the ink or the inks used are inks that are curable by radiation, e.g. ultraviolet radiation.
- A machine according to claim 1 or claim 2, characterized in that, when the media are cards made of card or of paper, the ink or the inks are water-based, phase-change, or solvent-based inks.
- A machine according to any one claims 1 to 4, characterized in that, when the media are memory cards, the machine further comprises a reader (L) suitable for reading information contained in the card, in particular information useful to the control means (40), so as to transmit said information to them.
- A machine according to claim 5, characterized in that the information read that is useful to the control means corresponds to information that is to be printed on the memory card by the machine.
- A machine according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that it further comprises a support element (60) for receiving a plurality of cards to be printed continuously, which cards are disposed on the support element so that the head of the machine sees them go past.
- A machine according to claim 7, characterized in that the support element comprises a flat conveyor belt (61).
- A machine according to claim 7 or claim 8, characterized in that the support element comprises a drum (62).
- A machine according to any one of claims 7 to 9, characterized in that it further comprises a suction device (63), the support element being perforated, so as to hold the cards as it advances.
- A machine according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that it further comprises a turnover system (90) for turning the cards over for printing on both sides of the cards.
- A machine according to any one of claims 7 to 11, characterized in that it further comprises a plurality of print heads (T1-Tq) aligned in the direction of advance of the support element and facing said support element, e.g. at least one color print head making it possible to print images of the photographic or colored type and/or at least one monochrome print head for marking purposes.
- A machine according to any one of claims 1 to 12, characterized in that it further comprises means (F1-Fq, SL) for transforming the ink into gel during printing, by wavelength modulation, remote from the card (Cn).
- A machine according to claim 13, characterized in that it further comprises means for transforming ink into gel, which means comprise an optical fiber placed after each print head, and connected to a light radiation source, said means (F1-Fq, SL) comprising UVC radiation emitter means.
- A machine according to any one of claims 1 to 14, characterized in that it further comprises means (70) for curing the ink at the end of printing, with, for example, an ultraviolet radiation lamp.
- A machine according to any one of claims 1 to 15, characterized in that it further comprises means for printing a finishing material, such as a varnish, by ink jet, as a function of geometrical and/or positioning parameters relating to the card (Cn) to be printed.
- A method of printing graphics by means of a machine according to any one of claims 1 to 16, characterized in that the printing takes place as a function of previously taken geometrical and/or positioning parameters relating to each card or the like to be printed.
