I keep seeing people share this tweet about how Biden is REFUSING to investigate the police response in Uvalde

It’s from the Washington Examiner, once a local newspaper in the D.C. area & now a right-wing magazine (indeed, they’re only a right-wing magazine, they dropped all local coverage years ago afaik)

And unsurprisingly given the source, this…is not an accurate reflection of what happened. The actual story is that Biden’s press secretary said they’re waiting for more information on the ground, that regardless they should “learn” from the response, and then a boilerplate “Biden respects law enforcement” statement tacked on at the end

This isn’t a great response but it’s far from Biden himself announcing that he REFUSES to investigate since he loves cops too much

Anyway thousands of people have shared it without reading further and now “Biden refuses to investigate Uvalde” is just a thing people take as a fact. I’ve seen it about a dozen times today and now that there are stories about a FBI investigation it’s being framed as happening over Biden’s objections or being a change of heart when, in fact, this press conference where Biden declared that he won’t investigate never happened
