README.md:574
- The table row for Falkland Islands lists only GOVERNMENT but the country supports both PUBLIC and GOVERNMENT holidays; update to something like
<td>GOVERNMENT, PUBLIC</td>
.
<td>GOVERNMENT</td>
holidays/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/FK.po:32
- [nitpick] All msgstr entries in the en_GB locale are blank. Consider providing translations (identical to msgid) to avoid empty holiday names when using the default en_GB locale.
msgstr ""
tests/countries/test_falkland_islands.py:34
- Expand this test to check the holiday name as well, e.g.,
assertHolidayName("Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral", "2024-09-19")
, to ensure both date and label are correct.
self.assertHoliday("2024-09-19")

Learning: In the holidays library, within the _populate_public_holidays method, holidays should be arranged by calendar type (Islamic holidays first, then Gregorian holidays) without additional type grouping comments. The organization by calendar type is sufficient and follows the project's established conventions.

File: tests/countries/test_finland.py:23-26

Learning: In the holidays library implementation, explicit holiday dates (like Diwali in Fiji) are only defined for historical years with official sources (2016-2025). Future dates beyond the explicitly defined range are automatically calculated by methods like `_add_diwali`, which provide approximations when official dates aren't yet available.

Learning: In the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines holidays implementation, New Year's Day is added without observed rules using `_add_new_years_day()` and should not include observed rule testing in its test method. Only holidays explicitly wrapped with `_add_observed()` have observed behavior.

Learning: In the Fiji holidays implementation, the `special_public_holidays_observed` dictionary in `FijiStaticHolidays` is only used for exceptions to the normal observance rules, not for documenting all holidays. Learning: In the France holidays implementation, deprecated subdivision names like "Alsace-Moselle" and "Saint-Barthélémy" are handled through explicit conditionals in _populate_public_holidays() that map them to their corresponding new subdivision-specific holiday population methods, providing backward compatibility while users transition to the new ISO codes.

File: holidays/locale/pt_PT/LC_MESSAGES/CV.po:31-88

Learning: In the holidays library localization pattern, when a locale file matches a country's default language (e.g., pt_PT for Cape Verde), the msgstr fields should be left empty. Only non-default language locale files should have translations in the msgstr fields.

Timestamp: 2025-03-30T13:33:31.598Z
Learning: In the holidays library, for localization files of the default language (like French for Ivory Coast in fr/LC_MESSAGES/CI.po), the best practice is to leave the message strings (msgstr) empty to avoid possible typos, since the message IDs (msgid) are already in the target language.

Timestamp: 2025-06-13T12:18:03.539Z

Learning: In the Fiji holidays implementation, the `special_public_holidays_observed` dictionary in `FijiStaticHolidays` is only used for exceptions to the normal observance rules, not for documenting all holidays. Only 2019's Constitution Day needed a special entry as it didn't follow the standard patterns.

File: holidays/countries/svalbard_and_jan_mayen.py:1-12
Timestamp: 2025-06-16T11:42:28.293Z
Learning: In the holidays library codebase, country implementation files in holidays/countries/ follow a standard convention of NOT having module-level docstrings. They start with the license header comment block, followed by imports, then class definitions. This is consistent across all country implementations like austria.py, belgium.py, canada.py, etc.

Timestamp: 2025-03-19T16:54:58.657Z
Learning: In the holidays library implementation, explicit holiday dates (like Diwali in Fiji) are only defined for historical years with official sources (2016-2025). Future dates beyond the explicitly defined range are automatically calculated by methods like `_add_diwali`, which provide approximations when official dates aren't yet available.

Timestamp: 2025-06-16T12:28:31.641Z
Learning: Library-wide holiday patterns and their optimizations should be handled at the base class level (like InternationalHolidays) rather than documenting workarounds in individual country modules. This maintains separation of concerns and avoids documentation duplication.

Learning: In the holidays library, method names like `_add_holiday_2nd_tue_of_feb()` and `_add_holiday_1st_sun_of_mar()` use calendar constants like FEB, TUE, MAR, and SUN internally through parent class implementations even when these constants don't appear directly in the file.

Learning: In the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines holidays implementation, New Year's Day is added without observed rules using `_add_new_years_day()` and should not include observed rule testing in its test method. Only holidays explicitly wrapped with `_add_observed()` have observed behavior.

Learning: Territorial holiday classes that inherit from parent countries (like HolidaysAX from Finland, HolidaysSJ from Norway, HolidaysTF from France) follow a standard pattern of silently overriding self.subdiv in their _populate_public_holidays() method without validation, as this ensures they always use the correct subdivision code for their territory regardless of user input.

holidays/observed_holiday_base.py (2)
30-31
: Constant name & delta look good.
MON_TO_NEXT_WED
follows the existing naming scheme and the+2
offset correctly points Monday ➜ Wednesday.
95-102
: Nice extension of composite weekend rules.
Both new rules map to the stated target days and fill obvious gaps between…_MON_TUE
and…_WED
. No logic issues spotted.holidays/registry.py (1)
84-85
: Entry is alphabetically correct and uses the required class-name tuple format.
Nothing else to tweak.holidays/countries/__init__.py (1)
75-75
: Import added in the right slot; F401 already suppressed.
The file-level# ruff: noqa: F401
still covers the three new symbols, so the linter noise in CI can be safely ignored.README.md (2)
570-575
: Row formatting aligns with surrounding table.
Alpha-2 only, bold default locale, category list – all matches project conventions.
108-108
: Approve README bump to 207
Verified there are 207 country modules in holidays/countries/, matching the README. The existing country-count test will catch any drift on CI. No further action needed.holidays/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/FK.po (2)
13-33
: Header and observed-label entry follow PO guidelines.
Default-language file → emptymsgstr
– perfect.
34-81
: Holiday catalogue complete & empty translations as expected.
Nothing to amend.holidays/locale/en_US/LC_MESSAGES/FK.po (1)
1-81
: Localization file looks good. The file correctly implements en_US localization with proper header format and identical translations (expected for English variants).
tests/countries/test_falkland_islands.py (1)
36-199
: Test coverage is comprehensive and well-structured.The tests properly validate all holidays, observed dates, year ranges, and localizations. Good use of generator expressions for date ranges.
holidays/countries/falkland_islands.py (1)
83-106
: Christmas holiday logic is well-implemented.Good handling of the complex observed rules for three consecutive Christmas holidays to avoid overlapping observed dates.

Seems like there are two additional WORKDAY
category dates as well (no in-lieu observance):
- Margaret Thatcher Day: JAN, 10 each year
- Falkland Day: AUG, 14 (move to
WORKDAY
post-2002)
That and 2020-2023 official calendar
@PPsyrius Sure, I'll make the change soon. Quick question though, what is the |
This is government observances that are noted in their calendar but no day-off given i.e. Thailand's Sunthorn Phu Day. In some countries non- day-off flag days may be included here as well i.e. Finland's. |
