Thank you for your feedback! PhotoPrism does estimate the location for photos that have no GPS data based on photos with location information taken at the same day. https://docs.photoprism.app/user-guide/settings/library/#estimate-locations You can turn this off in the settings. Improvements such as adding an option to limit location estimates to specific cameras are on our to do but not yet implemented: |

My partner and I each have phones that automatically sync our photos to the originals folder. Lately we've been in separate time zones, and our photos are interspersed in the photo list. I noticed that one of my partner's photos (center thumbnail in the image below) was marked with my location and timezone:
The correct time data for the center image would be "Thu, Jun 12, 2025, 8:16 PM GMT-4", but you can see that the timezone was updated to GMT+10 (AEST, Sydney), which is incorrect.
It appears that all three of these images have had their locations estimated, because the original images' EXIF data does not provide location data. When I tag my two images (left and right) with the correct locations and load the three images into a test instance of PhotoPrism, it avoids estimating the location of the center image, as I would expect:
I am not sure of the details of the location estimation algorithm, but I would prefer it to be more conservative than this. Specifically, I would prefer it not to update timezone information, and also to avoid location estimation if the camera was different.
If it's not clear why this image is getting its timezone and location data estimated, I would appreciate someone helping me diagnose this issue as I am unable to reproduce it with a limited set of images.
